I’ve founded more than 15 companies over 29 years. I started with a chemical engineering degree I never finished. The entrepreneurial world got there first and I never looked back.

The pattern across everything I’ve built is the same. I find the gap between what the market offers and what the business owner actually needs, and I build into it. Take what works, leave what doesn’t, and build it around the person who has to run it every day. Not to out-feature the large, established firms, but to outthink them.

People tell me I’ve been lucky. I’ll take that. My definition of luck is where preparation meets opportunity, and you actually do something about it. Thirty years of preparation and doing something about it tends to improve the odds.

That thinking led me to finance and technology. Not because I’m a CFO or a CTO. But because I’ve sat on the other side of that table enough times to know what a business owner actually needs from those functions, and how rarely they get it. Growing businesses between $5M and $100M get the junior team, the templated advice, and the invoice.

The measure of success for me has always been simple. If the client is growing, winning, and coming back for more, that’s the outcome I’m building toward. Not a transaction. I’m a qualified CA(SA) who is drawn into the workings of business — the creativity, the problem-solving, the chance to build solutions through deep interrogation. Fairly early on in my career, I realized that audit and traditional accounting weren’t where I wanted to spend my time. My journey has taken me through entrepreneurial ventures across fashion, tourism, regulation, and tech, and into the operational CFO role I hold today.

What I’ve learned, more than anything, is that good people plus good numbers make good business, and that EQ matters just as much as IQ. I’m driven by curiosity: I don’t take things at face value, and I’d rather unpack a problem from the ground up than accept the easy answer.

At Trigger, I get to do exactly that — simplifying complexity, building clear financial narratives, and helping the businesses we back make confident, informed decisions, through keen curiosity and intentional relationship building. Beyond the work itself, it matters to me that this is a business built with family and long-term substance in mind, not just short-term wins.

I’m an ACMA-qualified finance and operations leader with close to 20 years’ experience across a range of industries and business environments in the US, UK and South Africa. I started my career firmly in finance, building a strong foundation in financial management, control and reporting, but over time my remit has expanded into the wider workings of business — operations, systems, people and commercial decision-making.

That breadth suits the way I think. I like understanding how a business works from the ground up: how the numbers connect to the operations behind them, where processes and systems support growth, where they get in the way, and what needs to change to make the business work better. I’m comfortable moving between the detail and the bigger picture, and taking something from identifying the problem through to implementing the solution.

I’m a problem solver by nature. I don’t need to know the answer when something lands on my desk, but I will find it. If I need to learn something new, I will. I’m relentlessly curious, I love learning, and I’m always looking for ways to make things work better. Working across countries, cultures, disciplines and every level of a business has also taught me that the best solutions rarely come from looking at something through only one lens.

At Trigger, that translates into a role spanning finance and operations across an international and dynamic business. I work across functions, systems and teams, bringing together the financial and operational perspectives needed to solve problems, strengthen the way businesses operate and build the foundations they need to grow.

I’ve been told more than once that I care too much. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that as a bad thing. If something matters to me, I give it everything I’ve got. Making a difference matters to me, and whatever I’m doing, I want to leave things better than I found them.
